Data loss prevention
The first line of defense against data loss prevention and data maintenance.
- Back up your files regularly, and then test and verify whether they are complete copies. Optional external drives are good for this task.
- If you are using Microsoft Windows XP System Restore Point established before the major changes to your system.
- Write a plan and practice restoring data when there is a problem. My contingency plan should require, as a minimum:
- No software upgrades or hardware without a complete, Backup Verified available when you need to restore data.
- Document Systems and Software archive copy of the original in a safe place.
- Ensure the legal provisions of the correct environmental conditions (humidity, temperature, stable and clean), and proper handling to prevent static discharge and accidental falls.
- Remove unused files and applications. Use a disk fragmentation.
- Physically secure systems from intruders.
- Spread your firewall and anti virus.
- Prepare for natural disasters, including the use of backup storage.
